FESTIVAL FOREWORD

Photomonth is a celebration of photography accessible to everyone, providing the opportunity for emerging artists to be seen alongside established names, engaging the public with diverse images that tell stories, focus on issues from across the world, and ideas exploring and experimenting with the art form.

In 2016 photomonth is focusing on the importance of the photobook with an exhibition, talks & discussions and the photomonth photobook fair at theprintspace gallery. The photo-open and portfolio review are at the Rich Mix, the photoblock at Old Truman Brewery, and a wide ranging programme of over 100 exhibitions and events can be found in galleries and venues all over East London. Since 2001 photomonth has become one of the largest and most inclusive festivals of photography in the UK.

Photomonth launches on 29 September at theprintspace gallery with The Disinherited a specially curated show of commissioned work by three inspiring photographers Alina Kisina, Heather McDonough and Ed Thompson who have chosen to follow a subject of social significance.

The Dalston Street Show is a dynamic new photomonth project breaking conventional boundaries and breathing new life into the area.

The free festival brochure, available at all photomonth venues, lists the exhibitions and events with a map to help you find your way but even more may be found on the website www.photomonth.org
